PE
P.E. at St Matthew’s
Friendship, Discovery, Prayer
Intent
At St Matthew’ s we believe all children can achieve in PE. To this end we enable all children to have the opportunity to be taught physical skills to keep them fit, healthy and engaged in continuing a life-long ability and enjoyment of exercise. Children are comfortable to ask for help, are given time to practice and understand the huge health benefits of regular exercise today and beyond life in education. We intend for our children to be inspired to be an active generation, to enjoy PE, encourage each other and achieve.
Implementation
Our PE curriculum is progressive and allows children to develop fundamental skills and apply them to a variety of sports and activities. All children are provided with the necessary skills and given opportunities to demonstrate improvement to achieve their personal best.
Impact
PE is seen as a high impact and essential part of our school curriculum. Teachers have the range of knowledge and skills to deliver PE to all pupils to enable them to reach their own potential. All children have good understanding of the underpinning values and disciplines PE promotes adhering to the Merton School Sports Partnership REFSPECT campaign. We expect everyone taking part in PE at school, in competitions or events, to maintain respect for the rules, officials, opponents, teammates and themselves.
